Stop #33: KOA Campground Rock Springs, WY

From West Yellowstone, we needed to get to Breckenridge, CO for our one month stay in celebration of our son's birthday. He has a birthday in early February and he wished to go skiing and we delivered. :) Since it takes close to 11 hours to travel that distance we decided to stop mid way for an overnight stay before continuing on. Winter days are short and we didn't want to travel past sunset, plus we all do better with shorter travel days.

We chose to stop at Rock Springs, Wyoming at a KOA in Rock Springs because we know what to expect with this chain. This KOA had mountain views and several amenities including a pool (which was closed for the season and was surrounded by a chain link fence which is not our fav look), a playground with a basketball court, a climbing wall, as well as cabins for those not traveling in RVs.

We had a gravel site with a fire pit and picnic table - but as other KOA's there were other better options with concrete pads and nicer furniture. We were located next to the office which was fine for that one night. If staying longer we would've preferred to be further away from the entrance but we didn't even unhitch when we arrived. Plan was to take off early in the morning. We thought about just parking at a Walmart as we've seen other families do but the rate at this KOA was pretty cheap this time of year and we opted for safety.

This campground is probably a lot nicer during the warmer months with more greenery and an open pool. Our stay was fine with the only inconvenience being that there was some dog poop on our site when we arrived which was disappointing as these are usually cleaned before check in. After telling the staff they did promptly take care of it which was good. Since we still had a broken washer we used the laundry room that afternoon which had a mix of new and older machines. The laundry room is attached to the office so it was great to be right next to it as we carried stuff back and forth.

Overall, this campground is good for short stays although, full disclaimer, we did not explore the area and there might be interesting/fun things to do in the near vicinity. Don't think we will be back to find out. :)
